Hi5 – Favourite MG/YA books to Movies
I struggled with this but eventually came up with five. So in reverse order
Anne of Green Gables
Ah, my childhood Sunday night viewing. I so wanted to move to America and have red hair.
Twilight
I LOVE both the books and the films pure, perfect escapism. It’s been a while since I’ve read the books but I’m pretty sure they’re not as funny as the films, so extra points of adding laughs, especially Charlie’s lines.
The Bridge to Terabithia
I haven’t actually read the book and I’m not sure I can bare to because the movie more or less destroyed me. Tears welled as I tried to find a photo to post.
The Harry Potter Films (especially The Prisoner of Azkaban)
I love the books and I think they did a great job with the movies, brilliant casting (Alan Rickman was clearly born to play Snape) and they stay more or less true to the books.
The Princess Bride
One of my favourite movies of all time. Last Christmas the husband managed to flummox me by claiming to have never seen it. I made him watch it, sure he was remembering wrongly, but no he’d never seen it!! Which just shows even after 14 years of knowing someone you still don’t know everything about them.
Although I’m not sure if this counts. I haven’t read the book but if the film is true to it, it definitely feels like a YA to me? What do you think? And what adaptations do you love?
The Princess Bride keeps coming up as a fabulous movie – I really have to see it one of these days! I love your other choices too 🙂

The Princess Bride is an amazing movie, but I actually dislike the book… it's much less coherent than the movie, totally full of asides and stuff that has nothing to do with the actual story.
And… Anne of Green Gables actually takes place in Canada 😉 had to say it, for the glory of my country lol

How good was the bride to terabithia? I havent showed my kids that one yet (my oldest is 9) cant wait for them to watch it. it's a really powerful movie.
I havent seen Princess bride (!) But I've been trying to hunt it down and cant find it anywhere 🙁 Weird, as i know it has a string cult following here.
And i laughed in Twilight too 🙂 not sure i was meant to though. havent seen new moon or Eclipse yet though.

Jemi – oh you must it is fabulous.
Becca – *blushing* I did know that! Interesting that you didn't like the book of The Princess Bride. I'll have to read it some day and see.
Nomes – it really is. I wish all kids movies were like that! You must get your hands on The PB it's just so good. The husband agreed when he finally saw it 🙂

I LOVE The Princess Bride, book and movie (though they're pretty different). And Anne of Green Gables is my role model for life! I want to rewatch those movies now 🙂

Ooo, good picks, Alexa! I love it when YA or MG novels become movies. Also, please tell me you've seen the preview for the movie, "Vampires Suck?" Because if you haven't, you MUST. You'll love it.
