Friday Five – writing, reading & cupcakes

1) I have signed up for NaNoWriMo, if you’d like to friend me you can find me here. Although I’ve actually started already. I’m hoping to get 20,000 words done in October and then win NaNoWriMo this year by completing the 50,000. Fingers crossed, because this novel had been giving me such a hard time. I really need to just get a first draft down rather than editing as I go along.

2) My friend Kim is celebrating 10/10/10 with ten writing related posts. It’s really fun. So far my favourite has been her Genre Writing Prompets. Although now I want to abandon the WIP and explore the dystopian story, her prompt inspired.

3) Talking of dystopia, I just finished The Passage by Justin Cronin. I felt like I’d seen a lot of it before, but it is a good story and it kept me company while I ran, so that was good. The strangest thing was, in a novel where the human race is all but wiped out, I really didn’t feel enough people died! There are a lot of lucky chances for the main characters.

4) Despite DC weather not co-operating at all! I am still celebrating fall! Pumpkin Spice cupcakes at Georgetown Cupcake are now on my list of reasons Autumn rules.

5) In case you missed it. Courtney Summers posted, the first five chapters of Fall For Anything, on her blog. I had to read it but it made me even more desperate for the book than the trailer did.

Happy Friday!

  1. Added you as a writing buddy on NaNo – my username's Siesta.

And now it's 8:42am on Saturday morning, and I'm wondering whether cupcakes for breakfast would be so very, very bad.

  2. i started reading the passage and ran out of time with having to return it to the library 🙁

I'm going to do nano too – but i have no idea what i will be writing yet! trying to brainstorm a hook for a few characters i have in mind. i need to get on with signing up too so i can add people

and, i did somehow miss courtneys first chapters – off to read them now! wahoo!

  3. Amie – Excellent!IGood Luck with NaNo. Pretend you are on US time 🙂

Nomes – I listened to it on audio, which is why it took forever! It's worth checking back out though.

    Brilliant, good luck!

    Enjoy the chapters

  4. Our blog posts have very similar titles today, lol. 😉

I haven't decided about NaNo yet. Maybe if a shiny new idea drops into my head between now and Nov first…. Good luck to you!

  5. Shari – They do! I think that was some subliminal copying on my part, as I usually call this Five Things on Friday. Let's hope I don't subliminally copy whatever I'm reading into my NaNo project 🙂

  6. Alexa, thanks for linking to me for my 10/10/10 Countdown!!! I think my favorite post to write has been the genres/prompts post, too.

Good luck with NaNoWriMo! I wish I had the guts to do it with you. You're awesome!!!

  7. Good luck with NaNo! I hope it goes well 🙂 And yay for pumpkin spice cupcakes! I have to find some now.

  8. Good luck with NaNo (I'll be joining you in the insanity). And I love, love, love the Fall For Anything trailer. Must get my hands on that book when it comes out.

I adore comments, so thanks so much for taking the time. I'll try and return the favour 😀
